FAQ’s

Q. Is there a vet on call should my dog take sick while at PetsFirst boarding kennels and cattery?
A. Yes – PetsFirst is unusual in that we have an on-site Veterinary Clinic. This provides 24 hour emergency cover. Each dog and cat also receives a twice daily Veterinary check while in our Kennels and Cattery and so any problems can be quickly spotted and dealt with immediately. Our number one priority at all times is your pets health, safety and security.

Q. Are dogs or cats mixed at anytime during their stay in the kennels and cattery?
A. No. We never mix dogs or cats during their stay. Dogs and cats that live together are kept together at all times. In some of our kennels, dogs can see one another for amusement during the day or if your dog prefers a kennel where he will not see other dogs just let us know – all dogs have different personalities and we will do our utmost to keep yours as happy as possible when in our boarding kennels. In our cattery we have specially designed chalets which are separated with a sneeze barrier so that cats that are beside one another can see each other but do not have physical contact. We also have chalets where cats cant see one another – again just let us know which one your cat prefers.

Q. Do the kennels and cattery have heating during the winter?
A. Yes.  Our kennels and cattery both have underfloor heating, double glazing and are fully insulated throughout, so even if your dog or cat is used to living indoors he will still have all his home comforts during his stay at PetsFirst kennels. We try to keep your pets environment as similar to home as is physically possible and comfort is a big priority at PetsFirst.

Q. Are the kennels and cattery totally secure?
A. We have double perimeter fencing around the kennels and the entire premises is fully fitted with a fire and intruder alarm and cctv.  There are electric gates at the entrance and pin locks on all the doors into and out of the kennels and cattery.  The kennels or cattery are never left unattended and a Veterinary Surgeon  lives on the premises which provides 24 hour cover for the animals in our care.

Q. Are the dogs exercised?
A. Yes definitely.  At PetsFirst we feel that exercise is one of the most important factors in keeping your dog happy during his stay.  We do not take any of the dogs off the premises.   Instead we have  large outdoor play areas which are fully fenced and concreted where the dogs are GUARANTEED to  go outside for at least 15 minutes exercise twice a day.  Here we throw a ball or a stick for them and give them the human contact that they need.  This means they eat better, sleep better and have a routine that they look forward to during the day.

Q. Do you provide a grooming service?
A. Yes we do - on site. Please see the Grooming  page on the website

Q. Can we come and have a look round your kennels and cattery before we book?
A. Yes of course. We would be delighted to show your around the premises, just give us a call and we can arrange viewing at a time that suits you.

Q. Do you provide any other services at PetsFirst?
A. Yes we do.  We have a modern, fully equipped Small Animal only Veterinary Clinic on site.  This ensures you can have complete peace of mind while you are away. We also provide a full grooming service.

Q. What do I need to bring with me for my pets stay?
A. The most important item is the vaccination records. These must include their up to date annual booster  ( including kennel cough for dogs).  We provide bedding ( vetbeds and fleece blankets)  and bowls, but feel free to bring a favourite toy or blanket to help your pet to settle.

Q. Can I bring our own food?
A. Yes - of course. Very helpful and essential if your pet has a sensitive tummy.

Q. Do you take dogs and cats of all ages?
A. Yes. We take dogs and cats of all ages and breeds, there are no restrictions.

Q. Do you take dogs on medication at your kennels and cattery?
A. Yes.  Because of our on-site Veterinary Clinic, administering drugs to dogs/cats on medication is no problem at all.  We also cater for old or sick dogs or cats, those who are recovering from operations or illnesses or those who need injectable medication (eg diabetes).
